About Us
Ministry of Local Government and Inner Islands
The Ministry of Local Government and Inner Islands operates under the mandate provided by Article 167 of the Constitution of the Third Republic of Seychelles. This mandate encompasses the division of Seychelles into administrative units, management of district affairs, facilitation of quality services, and implementation of community projects based on local needs.
Core Functions
District Administration Management: We oversee all 27 District Administration Offices, ensuring compliance with the Government and Ministry’s policies and standards, consistency in project implementation, and proper budget management.
Community Engagement: Promoting community participation and ownership in district affairs, providing guidance on public services, and fostering collaboration with other Ministries, Departments, Government Agencies, Civil Society, and other stakeholders.
Community Development: Initiating and supervising community-oriented programmes, managing infrastructure, facilities, and burial grounds, and fostering regional and international partnerships.
Mandate
Office of the Minister: Provides leadership and policy guidance.
Office of the Principal Secretary: Offers strategic leadership to achieve ministry objectives.
Community Affairs Division: Ensures district offices align with Government objectives and implements community-based programmes.
Human Resources Development, Performance & Budget Management Division: Provides strategic leadership relating to the management and development of human resources in the Ministry and ensure proper budget management.
Support Services Division: Manages district emergencies, security, cemetery services, and facilities maintenance.
