Bel Air

Origin of Name and History

Bel Air probably got its name for the pure and fresh air and for its proximity, so close to nature, fed by numerous streams which cascade down its rocky cliffs.

Community Facilities and Services

The Bel Air District has various community facilities and services at the benefit of the inhabitants. Such includes: One Day Care Centre; One Primary School and Creche; One mini playing field, two Multi Purpose Courts, One Community Centre and One old Cemetery and One Anglican Church.

Location

The Bel Air District is a suburb of Victoria in the North East of Mahe. It is situated next to St Louis district. It is overlooked by the rugged ridges of “Trois Freres”  (699m) and it is the main 9km road from Victoria that cuts through the district that leads into the forests of Sans Soucis.

Districts Logo and Motto

The District’s Logo with motto “Striving for Gold” represents and signifies the district over which presides the Trois Frères hills overlooks and dominates over Victoria and at whose many ancestors lie in eternal rest, pure and fresh air and so close to nature, fed by numerous streams which cascade down its rocky cliffs, true to its motto:

“Sources de Perles, Amour d’un Peuple”
