District Disability Support Group Celebrates 20th Anniversary
The District Disability Support Group which was created and launched on 12th July 1999 celebrated its 20th anniversary through a special gathering at the Les Mamelles Community Centre on Saturday 13th July, 2019.
The ceremony was special as the association seize the occasion to reward long-serving volunteers who have invested their time to support their respective groups and rendered their services to the disabled in the community. Welcoming the guest at the ceremony, Ms. Jourdane Ernesta highlighted the effort of the volunteers to ensure the association remains active and stressed on the need to remain active for the benefits of the people living with disability.
In attendance at the gathering were a group of people living with disability, District Administrators, Programme Officers, Volunteers and representing the Ministry of Family Affairs was Principal Secretary Linda William-Melanie who delivered a welcome address whereby she had a message of gratuitude and recognition for all the volunteers who support the District Support Group and dedicate their time for people with disability within the community speaking on behalf of Minister Mitcy Larue.
The ceremony saw a group of volunteers receiving their award and enjoyed a special song written and performed specially for the occasion by Ebrahim Dodin. The invitees continued their day with lunch and entertainment.
