Media Relations and Communications for District Administrators

District Administrators (DAs) and Acting DAs learn how to write powerful messaging Press Releases, the requirements and exigencies of radio, television, print and online media and how to prepare, handle and turn media interviews to their advantage.
This was through a two day workshop organized by the Local Government Department on Friday and Saturday last week. ‘It is part of our effort to give greater visibility to the works and services being delivered by the District Administration Offices as well as things happening in the communities, in line with our vision of having “Empowered citizens with a high sense of community spirit and ownership, thriving on a good quality of life and proactively engaging in the affairs of their communities’ ” commented the Director General for Community Development Mr. Emmanuel Toussaint.
The very interactive workshop included presentations as well as hands-on exercise in interview techniques, writing Press Releases and interacting with the media.
The Director General for Human Resources and Budget Management, Ms. Cecile Decommarmond who was also present on both days explained that the training is another step in the development of the Department’s Communication Strategy which started with the launching of its website late in 2018. Its overarching goals aligns with our mission “to develop and promote an effective local government system and conductive environment for community empowerment, participation and sustainable development”.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues at the end of the workshop, the DA for Beau-Vallon, Mrs. Denise Clarisse said “the workshop has been very insightful and has given us the tools and confidence to interact better with the media and to use the modern communications tools to give greater visibility to our respective district and communities at large”.
The workshop was facilitated by local communications company Prism Consulting (Seychelles).
