English River is locally known as Riviere Anglaise or even RA for short. English River was discovered and best owned it name in 1609 whereby an expedition of the British East India Company led by Alexander Sharpeigh.
English River is situated in the central region of Mahe. It is bordered by Anse Etoile, Mont Buxton, Ile Perseverance 1 & 2 and St Louis District.
There are six sub districts and they are English River Central, Union Vale, Greenwich, La Rosiere, Ma Joie and Quincy Village.
The total area English River Covered is 1.7km2.
