Origin of Name and History

Cascade owes its name to the waterfall that flows there. The district has a rich historical past. It was among the first place on Mahe where in 1873, the first Catholic missionaries started their evangelical crusade in a small chapel constructed in 1882. The St Andrew’s Church now stands as a national monument.

Community Facilities and Services

The Cascade District has various community facilities such as a Primary School and Creche, one Church (Roman Catholic), two playing fields, one multipurpose court with lighting facilities and newly built fishing jetty and facilities for the community’s fishermen.

Location

The Cascade District lies on the East coast of Mahe, 7km away from Victoria. Situated between Les Mamelles and Pointe Larue, the district extends over 1012 hectares encompassing the residential sprawls of Brilliant, Petit Paris and the coastal region of Talbot.  The Mt Sebert is 551m high.

Districts Logo and Motto

The District’s Logo with motto represents and signifies the waterfalls, at the base of the imposing granite cliffs, are many of Seychelles best endemic plants, nature trails, and for decades its inhabitants have depended on the continuous flow of the Cascade River especially the washer-women and on the sea, for this is also a Community of fishermen whose catch was graced by St Andrew, the patron saint of fishermen, of the district
